About Me :
I am passionate about issues of social justice, equality and health policy. I am a member of the c/o 2014 with the UCLA PRIME program through Charles Drew University of Medicine and Science and David Geffen School of Medicine. I am pursing my MD and MPH or MPP and I am looking forward to practicing as a physician within medically underserved communities as well as motivating young students to pursue careers in medicine and bridge the gap between California's Latino population and Latino Physician population. In the future I see myself drafting health policy that will ultimately improve health care access and health outcomes for Californians both in urban and rual populations.

About Me :
I was born in Los Angeles, but moved to a small town in Northern California when I was twelve. I then moved to the Bay Area where I studied biology at UC Berkeley, conducted childhood obesity research, and worked as a medical assistant. Now I'm back in LA for medical school and ready to make a difference. The Latino population is projected to triple by 2050 and account for 30% of the total US population. Already underrepresented in medicine, culturally competent Latino doctors are needed now more than ever to cater to a patient population whose healthcare needs are often underserved. Through LMSA I hope to play a role in diminishing the disparities that exist in healthcare and higher education.

I was born and raised in East Los Angeles and see myself working with this community in the future. My interests include mentoring students interested in pursuing a career in serving medically underserved communities.

About Me :
I am a first year medical student in the Charles Drew University/UCLA Medical Education Program. I attended UC San Diego, graduating with a B.S. in Human Biology in 2008. It was there that I gained an understanding of the stark health care inequities affecting communities in southern California and Mexico while working with Chicanos for Community Medicine and the Flying Samaritans. I have an interest in acute care. I enjoy videogames, dancing, films, and visiting my family.

Because I've received so much help along the way, giving back is only natural.

About Me :
I graduated from Cal State Dominguez Hills in 2008 with a B.S. in Biology, after which I taught 7th grade Life Science at Hollenbeck Middle School in the city of East LA for a year. My desire to become a physician stems from the value of education instilled in me by my mother. I grew up dismissing the importance of education and had no real intention of pursuing it. I have my mother to thank for changing that. I remember seeing the effort she made to pursue higher education. Seeing this strong, beautiful, caring mother of four going back to school helped me see the importance of education. It is also the reason I want to go into pediatrics. It is my desire to be able to help as many underrepresented children the pursuit of higher education in much the same way that my mother helped me see it.

About Me :
Imported straight from the Caribbean, this island girl made her way out to sunny Southern California as a kid, growing up in the city of Rosemead. She is the youngest of 4 children and the only girl in the family. I graduated from Cal Poly Pomona in 2005 with a Bachelor’s degree in Biology. After working for two years, I completed one year of postbaccalaureate work in through the Drew/UCLA Post-Baccalaureate Re-Applicant program, and found myself amidst a sea of bright, young minds in the Charles Drew University of Medicine and Science and the David Geffen School of Medicine at UCLA’s Class of 2012. I am interested in pursuing a Master’s degree in Business Administration, in order to successfully run my own business and utilize a portion of the profits to provide care for the underserved.

I recently completed my B.A. in Latin American Studies and a Certificate in Health Policy. I am currently a first year medical student in the Charles Drew University/ UCLA Medical Education Program. I attended UC Irvine, graduating with a B.S. in Neurobiology in 2006. After graduating, I spent a year researching vocal brain development, then moved onto potential HIV vaccines. However, it was the public health research that I did in the Philippines and Mexico that opened my eyes to health disparities and barriers to quality healtcare that are also prevalent in our own Los Angeles communities. My interests lie in preventative care, medical education, and global health. I love traveling and exploring new places, interesting cusine, and laughing with friends and family.
