Co-Chair UCLA Jorge Heredia
jhered17@ucla.edu
Hometown: Corona, CA
Undergraduate Campus: UCLA
A Little About Me: Co-chair My motivation for medicine was first stimulated in college through my involvement with Chicanos/Latinos for Community Medicine (CCM), for which I served as a member for four years, and as a member of the board of directors including External Coordinator (Co-Chair) my senior year. My drive and support for medicine continues through LMSA. Likes: boxing, golfing, fishing, gaming, smell of gas stations, opening envelopes from the side, the other side of the pillow, waking up early and going back to sleep. Dislikes: running errands, flip-flops, the twang in country music, pens with missing caps.

Hometown: San Diego
Undergraduate Campus: UCLA
Major: Biochemistry
Future Aspirations in Medicine:
Reconstructive surgery/General Surgery
A Little About Me: FundraisingI am hoping to one day pursue a career in reconstructive surgery and hopefully work with disadvantaged patients. I plan to volunteer for programs where I can do free surgeries for children and adults in need of plastic surgery. I am currently involved in LMSA as the Fundraising Coordinator where I plan events such as tamale sales to raise money for the scholarships and health fairs that LMSA hosts. In addition, I am the 2008-09 LMSA Conference Co-Chair. My past experience as an undergraduate at UCLA involved tutoring and supervising for the Academic Advancement Program. I was also involved with molecular biology research at the Jules Stein Eye Institute.

Hometown: Rochester, NY
Undergraduate Campus: University of Chicago
Major: French Literature, Arabic
Future Aspirations in Medicine:
Trauma surgery, international medicine
A Little About Me: SecretaryLMSA is the first group I joined at med school and it has been a wonderful experience! I wanted to be part of an organization that focuses on bringing healthcare to underserved communities. The Lennox Health Fair embodies this goal, giving students a great opportunity to interact with patients who are able to access free health screenings and medical advice. None of this would have been possible without such a caring and dedicated team of students who organize and volunteer for these activities every year. I am grateful for my friends in LMSA and I look forward to the coming year!

A Little About Me:
[Picture Coming Soon]
I was born in Sanger, CA. I spent most of my life in the Central Valley where my family and I worked as farm workers. I began my career at Fresno City College before transferring to UC Berkeley. After graduating from UCB, I went on to complete a master's in public health from San Diego State University, 2004. Before being accepted into the Drew/UCLA program, I worked as a health advocate for undocumented cancer patients in San Diego County. My future and long term goals are to establish one of the first comprehensive Farm worker Health Centers in the Central Valley that focuses on health policy, clinical research, and community empowerment. PS: I enjoy surfing.

A Little About Me: Lennox Coordinator I am a strong believer in the importance of grassroot movements towards improving healthcare and health education in medically underserved communities. Being a Lennox Health Fair coordinator allows me to be a part of these movements. I also have a special interest in women's health issues and would like to be a strong contributer in meeting their health care needs. This, in addition to loving what OB/GYN's do on a daily basis, convinced me to pursue a career in OB/GYN.

Hometown: South Gate, CA
Undergraduate Campus: UCSD
Major: Animal Physiology and Neuroscience
A Little About Me: Mentorship Coordinator I was born and raised in Southeast LA, a community with limited educational and medical resources. This, however, never impeded my desire for a higher education and instead drove me to pursue medicine. I graduated from UCSD and did the UCSF Post-baccalaureate program, and finally I am a member of the Charles R. Drew/UCLA medical program. I hope to come back to my community and serve them as an effective and compassionate physician in the future.

Jose Luis Ocampo

Hometown: Torrance, CA
Undergraduate Campus: UCLA
Major: Spanish
Future Aspirations in Medicine:
Physician and Director of a community clinic
A Little About Me:
[Picture Coming Soon]
I was raised in a primarily Latino community in the city of Torrance. Growing up in a medically underserved community as well as having dedicated most of my clinical volunteer work in these underprivileged communities, I have developed a personal sense of responsibility to help address the health care needs of these populations. Ideally I would like to practice in Los Angeles and use my training to deliver care to patients in other parts of the world.
