Welcome future doctor! This site is designed for academic success in the School of Medicine at the University of California, Los Angeles. In general, graduate school is difficult. Specifically, medical school is an experience that challenges your commitment, determination, stamina, and perseverance.
Believe it or not, students can and do experience difficulty in medical school. Some problems medical students encounter include:
- transitioning from undergraduate to graduate school
- poor study skills, habits, and techniques
- balancing courses with other commitments
- self-esteem and confidence
- motivation and procrastination
The Learning Skills Office assists students in developing the most effective learning and study strategies, based on personal learning style. Effective study skills involve awareness of how to learn, knowing how to retain, organize, integrate, and apply information, problem-solving, and successfully balancing life in the process.
Recognizing that everyone needs support to be successful in medical school, various resources are free and available to all current UCLA medical students.
Through informal counseling sessions, Dr. Stahl helps students to identify potential causes of stresses, difficulties, and sub-optimal performance. |
