Editing your CV
  • Put it away for at least an hour and preferably a day, and then look at it.
  • Put your CV in front of you and ask yourself if it looks good in a general sense.
  • Are all the margins even?
  • Did you use parallel construction?
  • Are the dates lined up?
  • Use a ruler and proofread your CV line by line.
  • Print your CV on a laser printer.
  • Use only high quality, bond paper - white, ivory, and light gray colors are most appropriate.
  • Read your CV out loud and ask yourself if it sounds right.
  • Show your CV to a trusted friend or mentor and ask them for their opinion.
  • Show your CV to a Student Affairs Counselor
