Formatting your CV
- Stick to standard fonts such as Arial and Times New Roman.
- Use a large-enough font 10 point at minimum, but 12 point is better.
- Use boldface and capital letters to guide the reader's eye to points you want to emphasize, such as titles, organization names and your name and address.
- Use bullet points with short, pithy sentences. It makes it easier for people to digest what they are reading.
- Use parallel construction, i.e. if you use a certain format in one part of the CV, you must use it throughout.
- Use plenty of white space. Put spaces between paragraphs and keep your margins to at least a half inch.
- Lengthen your CV to two pages if the information is too cramped on one page.
