- AWAY Electives are established clinical clerkships offered at other medical schools outside the UCLA system.
- Twelve of the 30 weeks of elective weeks may be used for AWAY Electives.
- AWAY Electives may not count toward the six weeks of 300 or 400 level subinternships required for graduation.
- Final approval for Away Electives will rest with the Senior Associate Dean for Student Affairs, Dr. Neil Parker (UCLA & UCR/UCLA students) and Dr. Daphne Calmes (Drew/UCLA students).

Applying for Away Electives:
- Complete the 'Away' school's application.
Most schools have their own application. The application may be on their web site or you may have to contact
the school directly.If the school does not have its own an application, complete an UCLA School of Medicine Student Application for a Non-UCLA Elective.
- Complete the AWAY ELECTIVE CHECK-OFF LIST by marking only those "boxes" that apply.
- Submit the following to Linda Cuesta for Dr. Parker's approval signature:
- The completed CHECK-OFF LIST.
- 'AWAY' SCHOOLS APPLICATION (or David Geffen School of Medicine at UCLA Application for a Non-UCLA Elective if the school does not have their own application form), and
- A COURSE DESCRIPTION for each clerkship you are requesting.
- Only if required by the visiting school, a completed VISITING MEDICAL STUDENT HEALTH CLEARANCE FORM (you must transfer your immunization information onto this health clearance form AND attach a copy of your immunization records.
- Give Linda Cuesta copy of acceptance letter from the away school so the 'away rotation' can be added to your schedule.
Note: It takes approximately 10 - 14 business days to process the paperwork
