Special Electives:
Special Electives are electives designed by you and approved by Dr. Neil Parker, the Senior Associate Dean of Student Affairs (UCLA/UCR students) or Dr. Calmes, Associate Dean of Student Affairs (Drew/UCLA)
Any deviation of an elective listed in the Handbook of Courses is considered a Special Elective.
- UCLA & UCR/UCLA students - final approval for Special Electives will rest with the Senior Associate Dean for Student Affairs, Dr. Neil Parker.
- Drew/UCLA students - final approval for Special Electives will rest with the Associate Dean for Student Affairs, Dr. Daphne Calmes.
- UCLA vs. AWAY credit -- Special electives taken at UCLA or an affiliated hospital will be given UCLA elective credit.
- Non-UCLA Special Electives are permitted only if approved by Dr. Neil Parker, the Senior Associate Dean of Student Affairs. Special Electives taken away from the UCLA hospital campuses will count toward the 12 weeks allowed for AWAY electives.
- You will only receive a maximum of four weeks credit for Special Clinical Electives (no exceptions).
- Special Electives may not count toward the nine (9) weeks of 300 or 400 level sub-internships required for graduation (no exceptions).
- Retroactive credit will not be granted. The elective must be approved and added to your schedule before starting the rotation in order to receive credit.
