The Student Affairs Office will be you home-base for the next four years, and we here to assist you in any way we can to make your transition to medical school as smooth as possible. Please call on use with whatever questions you may have.

 

The information in this packet is to help you get organized prior to the start of school. Everything in this packet is also on our “Accepted” student website at http://www.medstudent.ucla.edu/accepted/ for your convenience in case you misplace any of these documents. Please visit this website often for the latest updates.

Events:

“Introduction to Human Biology and Disease” (Orientation Program, August 1-5, 2005)

You will begin school on August 1 st with a mandatory special week long course and program to introduce you to our curriculum, resources, and services.

 

The White Coat Ceremony and Family Orientation— On Friday, August 5 th, there will be a White Coat Ceremony in which you will ceremonially receive your first white coat. Your parents, family, spouses and significant others are invited to attend both the Ceremony and a special Family Orientation on the same day.

Contact Information Updates— Please “help us help you” by keeping us up-to-date with your most recent/reliable address, phone, cell phone, and email address. Please go to the “Change of Address” link on the Accepted Students website to keep us up-to-date. This site will be temporarily Out of Service on July 28 th while we transition from maintaining your contact information in Admissions to the Student Affairs Office.

Housing Reminder— June 28 th is the last day you can apply for the School of Medicine allocated housing slots through the Admissions Office. After June 28 th, you will need to work directly with the Housing Office at 310-825-4271 or http://www.housing.ucla.edu/.

 

Checklist— We have enclosed a Checklist for your use to help you complete the numerous tasks at hand. Please keep this handy and please note the important deadlines.

Resources:

Hotel Information can be found in the Welcome to LA pamphlet enclosed for your family’s convenience.

Moving In— the Welcome to LA booklet is a great resource to help you get moved-in and includes phone numbers for local utility companies.

 

Computer Packages/Links— We are currently compiling a list of valuable resources and some “Package Deals” for your consideration for purchasing your computer and printer. Please go to the Accepted Students website for that information (http://www.medstudent.ucla.edu/accepted/).
