Student Rights Under FERPA

Student Affairs Information Release Authorization

Federal law clearly defines a student’s right to privacy and confidentiality and strictly limits the disclosure of any information from student records. Only “directory” information may be released. NO other information relating to student records may be released. The Federal government clearly defines “directory” information as name, current address, telephone number, major dates of attendance, and degrees and honors received.

It is the policy of the David Geffen School of Medicine at UCLA to provide the telephone numbers and addresses of medical students only for official business, i.e. to course chairs for school-related business; to the Association of American Medical Colleges, etc. The David Geffen School of Medicine at UCLA will not release any student’s telephone number or address to businesses or individuals for any other purpose.

It is the policy of the David Geffen School of Medicine at UCLA to confirm major, dates of attendance, expected date of graduation, and honors received.
