Mobile Device Requirement -- CLASS OF 2014

REQUIREMENT:

The Class of 2014 must have a Mobile Device for the 3rd and 4th year of medical school loaded with the required software.  The 3rd year starts on June 25, 2012 with Clinical Foundations.   Please note that a phone, data plan, wi-fi or blutooth is NOT required.

It is highly recommended that you purchase your Mobile Device by June 18, 2012 to allow time to install the software.  You must arrive to Clinical Foundations on June 25 ready to use it.

SOFTWARE REQUIREMENT:

• Pharmacopeia (Required )

Epocrates Essentials  (FREE, June 2012.)
This program is provided free at the beginning of your 3rd year; no need to purchase.   In the future, if you change devices, go here to learn How to Transfer Your Epocrates Software License.

• DynaMed (FREE)
• Medical Calculator (Required)
  The elements of a good medical calculator include an "info" function and formulas.  MedCalc is part of Epoctrates Essentials and is free to you.
• PDF Readers (Required - Select One)
  The eligible PDF readers for each device is listed on the Mobile Devices Compatibility Chart - 2012
• Security
  You will need to secure all data that you store on your Mobile Device whether it is personal or school related.  Activate the built-in security on your mobile device and set the lockout time to no more than 15 minutes.

HARDWARE REQUIREMENT:

Based on the software required above, we have developed a chart that outlines the models that are acceptable to meet the requirements.  Please select from one of these models.

Synchronizing Requirement:

In order to keep Epocrates and DynaMed software up-to-date, you need to synchronize your Mobile device to your home desktop/laptop weekly.

It is recommended that you synchronize (which is essentially backing up your data) each day or every other day so all of the information on your device including personal calendar and contact information in your Mobile Device is backed up onto your computer.

TIP: Be sure to keep your Mobile Device charged and backed up onto your home computer. It is possible to lose data if the battery charge runs out.
