Effective Summer 2001 beginning with the class of 2003, the David Geffen School of Medicine at UCLA started the Mobile Devide Requirement inwhich 3rd and 4th year medical students are required to have a handheld computing device.  This was done for two primary reasons: to enable "point of contact" access to information resources; and to prepare students for practicing medicine in the 21st century.    The requirement is updated each year for the rising 3rd year class.
