Academic Preparation Programs
print REV DATE: 12/11/2008

Two structured academic preparation programs are conducted by the Office of Academic Enrichment in the David Geffen School of Medicine at UCLA. The programs are held annually to prepare promising disadvantaged students for professional training and careers in medicine and dentistry.

The UCLA Pre-medical/Pre-dental Enrichment Program (UCLA PREP) is a seven-week summer program for pre-medical and pre-dental students.

The UCLA Re-Application Program (UCLA RAP) is an eleven-month program for students who have been unsuccessful in gaining admission to a US medical school.

Medical and dental faculty, science professors, advisors, admissions officers and current medical/dental students work with participants in small group settings.

In addition to didactic work, participants are assigned to observe practicing physicians, dentists and researchers performing the typical functions of their professions. Special focus is directed towards provision of care in California’s Health Man Power Shortage areas.

Funding for these programs is provided by the University of California Academic Preparation & Educational Partnerships; the David Geffen School of Medicine at UCLA; and the UCLA/Drew Center of Excellence.
